First TV – Quality Multipoint Video Conference on a Smartphone Demonstrated on a Moorestown-based Device
LAS VEGAS- CES 2010 (January 7, 2010) – Vidyo® Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, was featured in Intel CEO Paul Otellini’s CES keynote today to showcase the performance and capability of Moorestown, Intel’s next generation platform for handhelds and smartphones. Mr. Otellini’s demonstration of a multipoint videoconference on a smartphone reference design (Click here to view a video of Intel’s CES keynote) highlighted the unique advantages of Vidyo’s patented VidyoRouter™ architecture. This architecture enables higher resolution endpoints to interact seamlessly with lower resolution endpoints such as a handheld device or smartphone over a wireless network.
“The Intel® Atom™ processor roadmap brings tremendous performance at ultra-low power levels while maintaining full software compatibility,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in Intel Corporation’s Ultra Mobility Group. “Intel’s next generation Moorestown platform, combined with Vidyo’s Personal Telepresence technologies, will make it possible for consumers to enjoy powerful applications such as TV-quality multipoint video conferencing in the palm of their hands.”
Vidyo’s Intellectual Property
Vidyo was the first company to utilize H.264/SVC as the basis for a video conferencing solution. H.264/SVC is a video compression standard that enables a video stream to be broken into multiple resolutions, quality levels and bit rates. Utilizing this capability and Vidyo’s intellectual property, the VidyoRouter architecture offers unprecedented error resiliency while eliminating the costly MCU. The VidyoRouter is the first video multipoint solution that can deliver rate matching and continuous presence capabilities without an additional video encode and decode. This unique capability allows for less than half of the end-to-end latency of MCU-based solutions. (Click here to see a comparative demonstration of Vidyo’s consistent quality)
