Healthcare Providers Across all Regions of Alaska

American Telemedicine Association (ATA) Conference – May 6, 2013 –Vidyo, Inc. and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) today announced that they have partnered to add Vidyo’s visual communications and collaboration capabilities to ANTHC’s existing statewide telehealth network — AFHCAN.  By integrating Vidyo’s

ANTHC

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) with AFHCAN’s existing tConsult software-based system, thousands of Alaska health care practitioners will have the ability to conduct real-time, high-definition video consultations and examinations with hundreds of thousands of patients in more than 200 locations.

“The implementation of Vidyo has given us the ability to change the way we provide health care in rural Alaska,” said Dr. Stewart Ferguson, CIO, ANTHC. “The AFHCAN Telehealth program has more than 1,500 active providers in its network at any one time, with an average of 500 new providers each year. There’s a daily challenge of how best to reach out and connect with more than 200 sites scattered over 37 autonomous organizations at the end of land lines, satellite links, microwave towers, sea cables, you name it. For our complex world, we needed something that just works, period. That’s Vidyo.”

ANTHC/AFHCAN
ANTHC encompasses every city and village in the state of Alaska serving the majority of the state’s population through the AFHCAN telehealth program. Alaska is home to 700,000 people who are spread out over 660,000 square miles. This creates a challenging technology landscape that mixes satellite connectivity, high bandwidth, low bandwidth, high latency as well as terrestrial infrastructure, which all make connectivity and communication huge challenges.

Since being deployed statewide more than a decade ago, tConsult has vastly improved health care delivery in remote regions of Alaska. It has also expanded well beyond its initial concept of improving primary care workflows like specialty clinic referral, post-discharge continuity of care, and billing. Now Vidyo capabilities will be a core part of the system. Vidyo’s rich APIs enabled easy integration with AFHCAN’s tConsult solution to deliver the most cost-effective, scalable high-quality video via standard IP networks.  The Vidyo solution is extremely interoperable so that it performs seamlessly over all devices: PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, smartphone and also with older, legacy equipment.

“We are extremely impressed by how well ANTHC tackles the challenge of serving such a geographically dispersed population with high-quality health care,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo’s CEO and co-founder. “For ANTHC doctors to directly assess a remote patient’s condition in an emergency situation, they need a reliable system that offers high visual acuity over unpredictable network conditions. The unequalled level of quality, performance and reliability that Vidyo offers makes this possible. The integration of Vidyo with AFHCAN’s existing software solution creates an extraordinarily powerful tool for assisting physicians and ultimately helps save lives.”

The integration of Vidyo with the tConsult system will be demonstrated at AFHCAN’s Booth #1242, at the ATA Conference taking place May 4-8, 2013 in Austin, Texas.  Vidyo will be showing a documentary on the ANTHC use case, as well as demonstrating other use cases of its telehealth solution at ATA Booth #616.

Washington D.C. and Hackensack, NJ — April 18, 2013 – Vidyo, Inc. and Internet2, a member-owned advanced technology community founded by the nation’s leading higher education institutions, today announced a low-cost, subscription-based video communications offering for all Internet2 university members and thousands of public K-12 schools in the United States. K-12 schools will be able to participate through Internet2 NET+ regional partner. The service is expected to be available for early adopter enrollment in May.

The Vidyo-based service will be part of Internet2’s NET+ Services and will provide member institutions and other higher education and K-12 educational communities with a means to easily connect with affordable, high quality visual communication and collaboration across all institutions. Internet2 has partnered with ID Solutions, a global visual communications solutions provider, to deploy and host the service.

“Simple, high performance, personalized video based interactions have long been a goal for the education community.  The Internet2 NET+ Vidyo service will enable participating institutions to work in simple, effective and collaborative manner,” said Shelton Waggener, Internet2 senior vice president.  “As higher education evolves, so must the technology that we use to work together.  Our community needs solutions that can be applied across and shared by all of our university, K-12 and affiliate members. We are extremely pleased by the results that were achieved via the partnership to tailor the solution with Arizona State, Emory and Northwestern Universities. We’re excited to offer this to all Internet2 university members and other institutions.”

“We’ve used Vidyo products and technology at Arizona State University for the past few years, and we continue to see a significant increase in the number of downloads of the Vidyo client; over 2,000, which is double from this time last year – just from ‘word of mouth’,” said Gordon Wishon, Arizona State University’s chief information officer.  “We sponsored Vidyo as a NET+ Service for the very reasons that make us champions of this video communications solution.  We needed something very flexible, portable and high quality, even under the worst bandwidth conditions.  We’ve pushed Vidyo to the edge many times and its performance has been outstanding under the most extreme circumstances.”

Vidyo was recently the recipient of Frost & Sullivan’s 2013 Video Conferencing Technology Leadership Award after a thorough review and evaluation of the top three vendors in the global video conferencing market. Frost & Sullivan’s “Best Practices Research Report” details the evaluation process and analysis that determined the winning recipient and states that “Vidyo’s market leading innovations continue to demonstrate its technology lead and commitment to make video conferencing a ubiquitous technology.”

“Vidyo’s scalable, extremely accessible high-quality solution is priced at pennies per minute, enabling a whole new range of unique uses and applications that were never before available,” said Dr. Amnon Gavish, senior VP, vertical solutions, Vidyo. “The rapidly growing number of universities using our products and the rate of adoption – can attest to Vidyo’s high quality, performance and affordability.  Just look at how Vidyo usage is spreading and increasing virally throughout the ASU community and imagine thousands of institutions having access to this service!  We will be addressing millions of users. This is an enormous boon to the academic world.”

Users will be able to access the new Internet2 NET+ Vidyo service on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Linux platforms from a broad range of desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones, as well as legacy H.323 and SIP devices.  It is expected that the service will greatly enhance communication and collaboration between faculty, administration, classrooms, researchers and students at Internet2 affiliated institutions and businesses.  Some of the anticipated use scenarios are: research collaboration, virtual classrooms, K-12 outreach, HIPAA-compliant telemedicine and encrypted DOD communications for particularly sensitive environments, and communication between non-university affiliates and partners.

Enterprise Connect, Orlando, FL – March 18, 2013 – Vidyo, Inc., today announced a fully virtualized, cascadable infrastructure for video conferencing that scales across large, geographically dispersed implementations. The release of the VidyoGateway™ and VidyoPortal ™ Virtual Editions (VE) will complete the virtualization of Vidyo’s core infrastructure and open the door to mass adoption by offering enterprise customers and service providers high quality, scalable video conferencing at audio conferencing price points. Vidyo’s customers and service provider partners will be able to realize the significant cost savings, ease of administration and efficiency improvements of virtualization without the performance constraints that have previously plagued hardware-based, MCU solutions. VidyoGateway VE and VidyoPortal VE will ship in Q2 2013.

“As organizations continue to virtualize their business-critical applications, the ability to have robust solutions for the virtualization of video conferencing infrastructure is important,” said Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware.  “We are pleased to see Vidyo’s new solutions can support virtualized deployments, enabling the delivery of high-quality, scalable, resilient, and flexible video conferencing.”

“Companies want to get to 100% virtualization, but are still waiting for key applications that have been difficult to virtualize,” said Roopam Jain, Principal Analyst, Frost & Sullivan North America, Information and Communication Technologies Practice.  “Vidyo’s architecture eliminates those barriers and is compatible with mainstream virtualization technology. If your company has a large number of branches, it’s hard to imagine how a massive desktop deployment could be possible without virtualization and floating licenses.”

According to Forrester Research, a survey of North American and European IT decision makers indicated that by 2013, approximately 78% of their x86 server operating systems will run on virtual servers, rather than on server hardware.  Vidyo provides the first and only video conferencing infrastructure that allows customers to extend their investments in these virtualized x86 servers without having to deal with problems such as latency, limited scalability and prohibitive costs.

“Through virtualization, Vidyo enables mass deployment of its video communications and collaboration platform,” said Amir Shaked, Vidyo’s Senior VP of Product Management.  “We offer a video solution that supports any deployment model: premise-based, private cloud, public cloud or hybrid. Vidyo’s software licensing model further enhances the benefits of virtualization by allowing customers to take advantage of floating licenses and cascading.”

Vidyo will be demonstrating its virtualized video conferencing solution at Enterprise Connect in Orlando, March 18- 20, Booth # 613.

Andover, MA and Hackensack, NJ – March 6, 2013 – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) and Vidyo, Inc. today announced that the first Philips Healthcare solution incorporating enterprise-grade video for patient monitoring applications – PhilipsIntelliSpace eCareManager  3.9 enterprise telehealth platform featuring Vidyo’s VidyoRouter technology –  was launched during the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2013 conference and exhibition in New Orleans.

The new remote patient monitoring platformfollows an earlier announcement of the companies’ collaboration in April 2012, initiating Philips’ launch of an enterprise video conferencing platform for healthcare to be used for monitoring ICU patients. Technological features of the system incorporate multiple tools for enabling better coordination of patient care, care team collaboration, and patient engagement; allowing visual monitoring and access to vital patient information from remote locations, in a reliable and cost effective manner.

The platform combines Philips orb – a newly launched graphical dashboard – with Vidyo’s VidyoRouter Platform, which expands the ability for care provider devices to work across a broader range of networks. Orb’s ability to integrate practical data with visual technology helps clinicians to  prioritize patient needs and streamline in-hospital care. The orb dashboard features circles that represent individual patients and their health status. By viewing these circles, clinicians can determine, at a glance, important patient or population-level information, such as which patients are in need of immediate care versus others who might be ready for hospital discharge. It also helps clinicians prioritize information that was previously unavailable due to the massive amount of data created by a single patient, whether they are providing care at the bedside, from the nurses’ station, or hundreds of miles away from a remote, centralized telehealth care team.

As the adoption of telehealth by health systems continues to increase, companies with complementary technologies are working together to support clinicians who are managing large populations of patients remotely but don’t have the capacity to manage multiple technical systems. Philips eCareManager 3.9 and Vidyo’s collaboration provides a continuous, single platform to reduce technological redundancies – from the Emergency Department to the ICU and discharge – and offers continuity for quality of care.

The integrated workflow provides healthcare facilities with the flexibility to manage large patient populations while maintaining visibility into individual treatment needs. The system enables an expansion of video telepresence across geographically dispersed locations, and aggregates clinical informatics solutions designed to improve the quality of patient care for patients in the hospital and in the home.

“Enterprise-wide deployment of next-generation telehealth services requires advanced video technology that is scalable and flexible enough to support the needs of today’s caregiver, family and patient, regardless of distance or setting.” said Lori Lazzara, Philips’ VP, GM Connected Care Solutions. “This newest version of our IntelliSpace eCareManager platform is the first system which meaningfully combines these innovative technologies from Vidyo and Philips, and underscores our shared commitment to enabling patients to be transitioned between acuity levels at the most appropriate time, to improve patient care and reduce costs.”

“When two leaders in technological innovation, such as Philips and Vidyo, combine forces, the result is game-changing for the healthcare market,” said Amnon Gavish, Vidyo’s Senior VP of Vertical Solutions. “The interface of our two platforms is a significant first step toward a longer- term vision of providing effective telepresence for improving patient management in the ever-evolving environment of healthcare.”

Prior to using Vidyo, Roche Turkey district managers had to routinely travel to headquarters in Istanbul.  “Our employees often had to fly in the day before a meeting or stay overnight because of changeable flight schedules,” said Yavuz Sanes, IT Site Head Turkey, Roche Turkey. “Travel is not only tiring and stressful, but costly in terms of time and money. Our managers are greatly enthusiastic over Vidyo’s many different benefits.  They have commented many times about how easy and efficient meetings have become through the use of Vidyo.”

To find the best video communications solution, Roche contracted Vitel, a highly regarded Systems Integrator in Turkey.  “Vitel provided essential assistance during all phases of the project, from vendor selection to implementation,” said Sanes.

Throughout the entire Roche organization, and especially at Roche Turkey, innovation and sustainability are key goals.  In September, 2012, Roche was recognized the most sustainable healthcare company in the world, topping the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), for the fourth year in a row. The DJSI World and DJSI Europe Indexes track the performance of the leading sustainability companies based on environmental, social and economic performance.  “Vidyo was a natural choice for Roche,” said Sanes. “The Vidyo platform is perfectly in line with the high value our organization places on environmental issues, because of Vidyo’s unique ability to enable our employees to meet and conduct business from wherever they are, whenever they want, without the negative environmental impact of travel.”

The fact that Vidyo allows Roche Turkey employees to access telepresence-quality video communications over an iPad using VidyoMobile™, has been one of the most noteworthy benefits to the company. In August of 2011, Roche distributed iPads to its field force of 200 people and since that time, they have needed only one single device for all of their communications needs.  They are able to connect to conferences from wherever they are — over the Internet, 4G and even 3G, when corporate networks are not available.  According to Roche Turkey’s calculations, in 2011, seven hundred employees participated in 216 video conferences eliminating the need for 447,000 kilometers of flight travel and 31,000 kilometers of road travel.  Roche Turkey also asserts that by switching to Vidyo, transportation related risks for employees were reduced.

“Vidyo has again demonstrated the ease and value of its telepresence-quality video communications platform, delivering significant benefits,” said Eric LeGuiniec, VP and General Manager EMEA at Vidyo.  “Roche Turkey is now able to conduct its business more effectively and increase the productivity of their employees by using Vidyo as the solution facilitates high-quality, natural visual communication on whatever device is convenient to Roche employees, regardless of location.”

Hackensack, NJ – January 8, 2013 – 9:00 AM EST – Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced its collaboration with HealthSpot™, a pioneer in patient and provider driven healthcare technology.  HealthSpot has integrated Vidyo technology into its cutting-edge telehealth system that provides high-quality medical diagnostics to acute care patients anytime, anywhere.  Anchoring the telehealth system is the HealthSpot™ Station, a private, walk-in kiosk that offers patient access to diagnosis and treatment by board-certified doctors, via Vidyo-powered HD videoconferencing and interactive digital medical devices.  HealthSpot will demonstrate the Vidyo-enabled HealthSpot Station in the Grand Lobby (booth 3) at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Vidyo offers the industry’s richest and most versatile software video collaboration platform with APIs that allow companies such as HealthSpot to easily integrate high-quality video communications into innovative telehealth applications. Vidyo’s Adaptive Video Layering™ architecture and scalable video codec, provides HealthSpot with optimal and consistent video and audio quality for the most natural physician-patient interaction, even in low bandwidth environments.

The HealthSpot Station redefines access to healthcare through digital technology including a desktop with a touch screen, audio system, and a two-way high-definition video screen. The kiosk, enabled by Vidyo’s flexible and easily integrated APIs, provides Vidyo-based HD audio and video communications that brings patients a face-to-face experience with a board-certified doctor who could be miles away. Each station is supported by a certified medical attendant who facilitates check-in, helps patients with devices as needed, and sanitizes the kiosk after every visit.

“Our four criteria for a video conferencing solution included reliable quality, scalability, ease of use and smooth integration; and Vidyo has proven to consistently deliver the best interactive video experience,” said Dave Sebenoler, Chief Information Officer at HealthSpot. “The HealthSpot Station provides a true-to-life audio and video solution that brings patients a first class, face-to-face experience with a board-certified doctor who is miles away in an office.”

“HealthSpot needs to be able to  deliver these important healthcare services to virtually any location with an Internet connection—in hospitals, retail pharmacies, airports, school campuses, work sites and shopping malls in urban or rural areas,” said Amnon Gavish, Vidyo’s SVP Vertical Solutions. “They need to be confident that their kiosk can be installed in any location and offer reliable and high-quality video communication using ordinary wired or wireless IP networks. Only Vidyo’s platform can satisfy that critical requirement.”

“The high quality of video and audio in the HealthSpot Station is key to establishing a good doctor-patient relationship,” said Dr. Robert Stone, one of the doctors who had early and extensive experience with the HealthSpot Station. “Without the level of video conferencing quality that Vidyo provides, the interaction would be uncomfortable and unproductive. Particularly in encounters where the doctor and patient are meeting for the first time, it could compromise the relationship and the patient’s confidence in both the healthcare encounter and treatment recommended.”

The Vidyo Difference for Healthcare
Vidyo provides a highly flexible software communication and collaboration platform that can be easily customized for healthcare needs and integrated into other healthcare solutions. The patented VidyoRouter™ architecture delivers Adaptive Video Layering™, which dynamically optimizes the video for each endpoint leveraging H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-based compression technology and Vidyo’s IP. Adaptive Video Layering eliminates the MCU and offers unprecedented error resiliency, low latency rate matching thus enabling natural, affordable, high-quality video to work over the Internet, LTE and 4G networks.

Vidyo delivers end-to-end encryption, provides HIPAA-compliant security, and easily integrates into existing healthcare environments with support for a variety of medical devices and seamless interoperability with existing conferencing infrastructure. The Vidyo for Healthcare solution includes the industry’s richest and most versatile video collaboration platform with an Application Programming Interface (API) to video-enable third party medical applications and for easy integration into the medical workflow.
