New Concept in Retail Demonstrates Power of HD Video Conferencing

CES, LAS VEGAS – JANUARY 6, 2011 – Vidyo®, Inc., will be featured at CES 2011 as part of the ng Connect Program’s Virtual Personal Stylist, a new concept in shopping. Vidyo’s HD video conferencing technology enables personal interaction between consumers and product consultants for retail outlets. The demonstration is made possible by ng Connect, the multi-industry initiative driving the development of next generation broadband services based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) and other enabling technologies.  The demonstration showcases an enriched retail experience made possible by integrating Vidyo’s innovative technology with other emerging technologies in the realm of telepresence, cloud computing and ultra-high bandwidth connectivity.  The Virtual Personal Stylist can been seen in the Alcatel-Lucent Booth #35469 located on the second floor of the South Hall at CES.

“Next generation video conferencing solutions that can leverage LTE offer users a wealth of applications and rich new user experiences,” stated Steve West, Vice President, Emerging Technology and Media, Alcatel-Lucent and founding member of the ng Connect Program. “The Virtual Personal Stylist is a collaboration between premier fashion and beauty consumer brands, and ng Connect members Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. (HFMUS), Vidyo, VisionMAX, Telepresence Tech, [TC]2 and Samsung to demonstrate how LTE applications can change industries. We are pleased to work with Vidyo to experience the plethora of applications enabled by LTE through their advanced video conferencing platform.”

Through the auspices of HFMUS’ ELLE, the world’s #1 fashion brand, beauty industry global leader L’Oreal USA and upscale retail icon Bloomingdale’s contributed cosmetics and skincare products, and the AQUA apparel line used in the Virtual Personal Stylist solution concept.

“As 4G networks become available, the gap widens between Vidyo’s revolutionary personal telepresence solution and legacy video conferencing offerings,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo’s co-founder and CEO.  ““The number of applications for HD multipoint video conferencing over the Internet and LTE is enormous, and video communications has become an integral part of many types of businesses, including the retail industry. Vidyo is pleased to work with the LTE community on innovative solutions as the only video conferencing member of ng Connect.”

Vidyo´s Intellectual Property

Vidyo is the only company to deliver today a differentiated architecture leveraging H.264 SVC and eliminating a costly MCU as the basis for a video conferencing solution. H.264 SVC is a video compression standard that enables a video stream to be broken into multiple resolutions, quality levels and bit rates. Utilizing this capability and Vidyo´s intellectual property, the VidyoRouter architecture offers unprecedented error resiliency and low latency through eliminating the MCU. The VidyoRouter™ is the first video multipoint solution that can deliver rate matching and continuous presence capabilities without an additional video encode and decode. This unique capability allows for less than half of the end-to-end latency of MCU-based solutions.

Vidyo is particularly well-suited for video communications via LTE networks since it offers the industry’s best error resilience.  Vidyo’s patented technology was developed to preserve fluid, natural video over networks that are prone to packet loss. As such, Vidyo is able to provide a high-quality, artifact-free video communications experience via LTE.

Vidyo Technology was demonstrated during a keynote presentation at CES 2010, and during the course of the next year, the company continued to receive numerous awards, including the Wall Street Journal’s Technology Innovation Award for its economic breakthroughs. Vidyo will be demonstrating tonight at ShowStoppers, its HD multipoint video conferencing over desktop, room systems and mobile devices. Vidyo’s solutions are sold through carriers, service providers, and OEM partners.
