Sametime Integration Extends Support for Unified Communications with Seamless, Telepresence-Quality VidyoConferencing

LOTUSPHERE, Orlando, FL, January 25, 2011 – Vidyo®, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced integration with the IBM® Lotus Sametime® client, allowing users to easily initiate and participate in HD multiparty Vidyo™ conferences. With Vidyo’s award-winning solution based on the H.264 SVC (Scalable Video Coding) standard, any credentialed user can escalate from a Sametime chat session to a point-to-point or multipoint Vidyo conference. Participants outside the organization can be invited with guest links sent via instant message for impromptu meetings, or formal calendar invitation or email for scheduled video collaboration. Vidyo-enabled Sametime users can access telepresence-quality, multipoint video conferences over the Internet, via PC desktops or laptops, regardless of their location. The new Sametime plug-in will be demonstrated at Lotusphere, Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2011, Booth #636 and will be available this quarter.

“Vidyo has revolutionized video conferencing, empowering corporate employees to harness the benefits of telepresence-quality video communications from their personal computers,” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo. “The installed worldwide Lotus user base of over 145 million cumulative Lotus Notes licensees will now have the ability to interact and collaborate using a much higher-quality, natural video communication. It makes good business sense for organizations to deploy the Vidyo system to be used as a natural, productive extension of everyday work flow. With our existing support for MS OCS, our previously announced partnership with Adobe to integrate with their Connect platform, and now this plug-in for the Lotus Sametime environment, Vidyo integrates with the majority of the world’s deployed UC environments.”

How It Works

Vidyo’s plug-in for IBM Lotus Sametime launches the VidyoDesktop™ client in the same way that other communication modalities are initiated, providing users with the ability to initiate Vidyo conferences from within a Sametime IM session, for example. Additional participants can be added or invited to a conference already in progress with a single click. Credentialed and non-credentialed IBM Lotus Sametime users can be connected to a personal Vidyo room via a unique hyperlink shared within an IM, calendar invitation or email. The plug-in leverages the features of the Sametime collaboration suite which allows users to view a colleague’s availability through “presence” and connect in real time via video, text or voice. The Vidyo integration uses the familiar Sametime dialog boxes for a consistent user experience across all communication modalities.

Vidyo Plug-in for IBM Lotus Sametime Connect supports IBM Sametime Connect Client Version 7.5.1 or 8.0.2, IBM Lotus Domino Community Server Version 7.5.1, and runs on Windows XP and 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS. Information regarding IBM Lotus Sametime can be found at: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/sametime/.

Since all Vidyo technology and products deliver superior IP network error-resiliency, the Vidyo platform accessed through the plug-in enables IT managers deploying IBM Lotus Sametime to eliminate the costly dedicated networks and equipment necessary to achieve high-quality, multi-party video conferences with other video solutions. VidyoConferencing™ also enables tele-working or traveling participants to be included from outside the corporate network using just the Internet, and through firewalls with the VidyoProxy™.
