WSJ Lauds Vidyo for Delivering High-Quality Videoconferencing over the Internet or Wireless Networks at “A Fraction of the Cost of Dedicated ‘Telepresence’ Systems”

Hackensack, NJ – September 29, 2010 — Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced that it was the recipient of a Wall Street Journal 2010 Technology Innovation Award, nudging out other formidable nominees including Microsoft, to win the top honor in the “Network/Internet Technologies/Broadband” category.  According to the WSJ, “Internet videoconferencing has been around for a few years, but the calls typically are characterized by jerky, low-resolution video. More-realistic, high-resolution videoconferencing systems generally require dedicated communications lines and expensive equipment, limiting their use.” Vidyo is the first to offer unprecedented error resiliency and eliminate the latency of existing MCU-based videoconferencing offerings, enabling the delivery of natural, high quality multi-party video over the Internet, LTE, 3G and 4G networks for a fraction of the cost.

“The judges were very impressed with the Vidyo technology,” said Wall Street Journal News Editor John M. Leger, who oversees the awards. “They felt that Vidyo offered significant cost benefits because it uses standard Internet lines and doesn’t require expensive networks.”

“We have worked hard to provide the videoconferencing world with an alternative solution to systems that either demand too much time, money and network maintenance or can’t deliver a telepresence-level, easy-to-use experience,” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo. “We are extremely honored by this high recognition from the Wall Street Journal.  It is gratifying to know that the enormous benefits of Vidyo’s disruptive technology have not escaped the Journal’s thorough assessment.”

This year—the awards’ 10th—the Journal received 597 applications from companies, organizations and individuals in 30 countries. Ultimately, judges chose 49 applicants for awards in 17 categories. There were three primary criteria on which the judges made their selections:  Did the innovation break with conventional ideas or processes in its field; Did it go beyond marginal improvements on something that already exists and; Will it have a wide impact on future technology in its field or in other fields?

This is the latest honor in a series of other awards Vidyo has recently garnered for its patented videoconferencing solution based on its VidyoRouter™ architecture. Details about The Wall Street Journal 2010 Technology Innovation Awards are available at http://www.WSJ.com/Reports.
