VidyoMobile FAQ

Q: How is VidyoMobile different than consumer mobile video services?

A: Vidyo is the only video conferencing company to deliver natural business grade telepresence across all form factors, from smartphones and tablets, to laptops and desktops, to appliance based room systems, all the way up to immersive Telepresence, all via a common infrastructure over general purpose IP networks. This enables the user to have a consistent, high quality collaborative experience wherever workflow takes him or her, using whatever device and network that happens to be most readily available. With support for encryption, full control over user access rights and permissions, network and bandwidth management features, high quality data sharing, and many more features necessary to support enterprise deployments, VidyoMoble users don’t have to compromise on security or performance to gain anytime, anywhere access to mobile video communication.

Q: Why do I need an account on Vidyo infrastructure to use the VidyoMobile client?

A: Vidyo is not a free consumer service. It is a business grade service that is accessible through a third party Vidyo service provider on a paid subscription basis, or through an enterprise deployed VidyoConferencing system, to which access is limited to those having account credentials or joining the meeting of someone who has account credentials as a guest.

Q: I don’t have an account on a Vidyo system, what do I do now?

A: If you work for an enterprise, please request VidyoMobile support from your IT department. If your organization does not have an IT department, you can contact a Vidyo certified service provider to purchase an account on a subscription basis.

Q: Can I connect to my existing Polycom, Cisco, or Lifesize endpoints with VidyoMobile?

A: Yes, VidyoMobile connects to legacy H.323 and SIP based endpoint via the VidyoGateway.  This is an infrastructure component that your Vidyo service provider or enterprise must have installed in their network to enable this connectivity.

Q: Assuming my service provider or enterprise has the VidyoGateway deployed, how do I connect with a legacy endpoint from VidyoMobile?

A: If both parties are joining the same conference, the legacy endpoint dials into the conference as it normally does and the VidyoMobile connects to the same conference via name based directory. For direct calling from the VidyoMobile device to the legacy endpoint, where both devices exist in the name based directory, the VidyoMobile user can search and connect to the legacy endpoint the same way it connects to any other endpoint in the directory.

Q: How does VidyoMobile participate in content sharing?

A: Shared content viewing is supported in VidyoMobile. All shared content items appear in the VidyoMobile content dock on the in-call tool bar. The user can browse all shared content and choose which item to promote to the conference screen. VidyoMobile users cannot share content into the meeting in this initial release.

Q: What devices can I use VidyoMobile on?

A: VidyoMobile is released for iOS devices (iPad2, iPhone4, and iPod Touch) now through the Apple app store. VidyoMobile will be available soon on Android devices, version 2.3 and later.
