Vidyo Introduces Revolutionary Pricing Structure For HD Videoconferencing Ports

Interop Las Vegas, NV (May 19, 2009) – Vidyo®, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, announces a dramatic change in the way it will sell its award–winning videoconferencing systems to first time end users. The company will offer its high definition (HD) videoconferencing ports for only $1000 for a year. If the customer decides at the end of the first year that they do not need HD, then at no additional cost, the annual license will be converted into a standard definition (SD) perpetual port license. In addition, the offer will be applied retroactively to any existing Vidyo customer that has purchased an annual port license in the last 6 months.

"We strongly believe that after experiencing HD videoconferencing for a year, customers will be convinced that using anything less is unsatisfying," said Ofer Shapiro, CEO of Vidyo. "Most people have experienced SD quality only and are hesitant to buy expensive HD MCU ports for all desktop users. Many traditional conferencing purchases are SD. These purchases will become ´boat anchor´ hardware when the customer chooses to move up to HD. Leveraging our technology advantage, we are allowing everyone to experience the HD benefit, risk free."

Typically, when a customer purchases conferencing ports from traditional videoconferencing providers, they are sold as hardware ports. Because Vidyo´s system was built from the ground up on an architecture that is based on the new H.264/SVC standard, it has a flexibility and scalability unlike any other videoconferencing product on the market today. Without any additional hardware or costs involved, VidyoÂs architecture allows it to offer an annual license for a concurrent HD port, but provide a perpetual SD license at the end of the year.

The versatility of Vidyo products and technology enable both desktop and room HD videoconferencing that can be used by everyone in a company, whether from the office, home or while traveling, via general IP networks. Whereas other videoconference solutions are dependent on various combinations of hardware, specialized equipment and room setups, and dedicated networks to accommodate HD resolution, Vidyo takes a much simpler approach with superior results. VidyoTechnology™ eliminates the central component of legacy videoconferencing–the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU)–and replaces it with a distributed architecture using an application layer router. Because there is no MCU encoding and decoding bottleneck, there is no latency introduced on a VidyoConference™. The experience is smooth and natural.
