Vidyo CMO and SVP of Corporate Development, Ashish Gupta Elected to the UCI Forum Board of Directors

Jul 28, 2011

Hackensack, NJ – July 28, 2011Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced that Ashish Gupta, CMO and Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, was nominated to join the Unified Communications Interoperability Forum’s (UCI Forum) Board of Directors.  The UCI Forum’s vision is to enable interoperability of UC hardware and software across enterprises, service providers, and consumer clouds, as a means of protecting customer’s existing investments, simplifying their transition to more extended UC networks, and generating incremental business opportunity for all stakeholders in the ecosystem.

“I am honored to join the UCI Forum Board of Directors,” said Ashish Gupta. “Vidyo has been driving interoperability efforts for H.264 SVC-based systems for several years and has made standards-based technology available to the industry through the ITU-T and IETF and been a leader in the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). Interoperability is essential for the UC and video conferencing industry to reach its full potential and enable customer adoption.  This is a great opportunity for Vidyo to continue to lead the industry towards open standards that can bring telepresence into the UC environment.”

Ashish Gupta joined Vidyo in early 2011, having successfully led marketing, business development and sales teams in unified communication, collaboration, mobile and telecom companies. In most of his previous roles, Gupta was actively involved in driving a variety of standards including Voice XML, CCXML, SIP and other ratified standards in the communications industry.  Previously, Ashish led the Business Development and Strategy team for Microsoft Office Division’s Unified Communications Group focused on building the overall partner eco-system and leading and managing several strategic alliances. Prior to Microsoft, Ashish was VP of Product and Solutions at Alcatel/Genesys Telecommunications and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Telera Inc.

At the UCI Forum, Ashish Gupta joins Vidyo’s internationally renowned technologist, co-founder and chief scientist, Dr. Alexandros Eleftheriadis. Alex was Elected Chief Editor of the UCI Forum’s Task Group on Scalable Video Coding in November of 2010. Alex played a pivotal role in developing Vidyo’s ground breaking technology and today drives Vidyo’s intellectual property strategy in the company and its representation in standards bodies. He is an award-winning researcher, bringing over 20 years of research experience in video compression and communications to his role at Vidyo and at the UCI Forum.  He is also on the Board of Directors of the International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium (IMTC).  Prior to Vidyo he was an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. Alex has more than 100 publications, holds 16 patents, and has served as the Editor of the MPEG-4 Systems specification and Co-Editor of the H.264 SVC Conformance specification.

Alex and Dr. Stephan Wenger, CTO of VidyoCast, the company’s broadcast division, were among the four co-authors of the “RTP payload format for Scalable Video Coding” specification that was published as RFC 6190 on May 7, 2011. The Vidyo team is now actively working on scalable extensions to the “H.265” codec, activity that is led by Jill Boyce, Director of Algorithms at Vidyo, an active contributor to the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and SVC standards.  She was among the Joint Video Team experts awarded the 2008 Primetime Emmy Engineering Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in August 2008, for the development of the H.264/AVC High Profile.
