Matt Shafer is the administrative director of telemedicine and virtual care for Erlanger Health System, a nationally acclaimed, multi-hospital health system anchored by a leading academic medical center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Matt started his career in healthcare as an emergency department nurse at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2003. After working this way through different leadership positions in the ED, he switched his focus to telemedicine after seeing firsthand the incredible impact virtual care can have on community health, especially in medically underserved areas. As a clinical consultant for Specialists on Call and REACH Health, Matt worked closely with several healthcare systems building life-changing telemedicine programs. In his present role with Erlanger, Matt oversees all administrative, technical, financial, and marketing verticals for telemedicine and virtual care programs for the system. Matt lives in Apison, Tennessee, with his wife and four children.
