Alert: VidyoConnect for Desktop and WebRTC

We are tracking issues with VidyoConnect for Desktop and WebRTC on macOS 14 Sonoma.

Which products are affected?

  • VidyoConnect for Desktop
  • VidyoConnect for WebRTC

Issue description

VidyoConnect for Desktop

  • We have in intermittent issue where VidyoConnect for Desktop may crash when user initiates a screen share.
  • Please note this only affects the user sharing.
  • VidyoConnect for Desktop can receive shared content without issues.
  • We have an issue where an application window that is being shared through VidyoConnect for Desktop will become unresponsive.
  • This will render the user unable to interact with the shared window.
  • macOS Menu Bar will display a Screen Capturing indicator saying VidyoConnect is capturing your screen whenever VidyoConnect is running.
  • Please note that VidyoConnect is not capturing the screen or any other activities in the background unless you’re explicitly sharing content using the app.

VidyoConnect for WebRTC

  • We have noticed that the icons on our buttons may not be rendered by the new Safari.
  • We have not noticed this issue with Chrome.
  • An incoming video tile on Safari may briefly be zoomed in to the top left corner after becoming a loudest speaker tile.
  • The layout resets to normal in 3-5 seconds.

Root cause

Our teams are working to resolve the issues on the top priority. Following is an update on each of the issues tracked here.

VidyoConnect for Desktop

  • Crashing on content share.
  • Initial tests indicate an issue with MacOS Sonoma rendering the interface.
  • Application non-interactable with when being shared through VidyoConnect.
  • Initial tests indicate an issue with MacOS Sonoma rendering the interface.
  • MacOS Menu Bar will display a Screen Capturing indicator saying VidyoConnect is capturing your screen whenever VidyoConnect is running.
  • This seems correlated to the first two issues. We have not been able to isolate a root cause.

VidyoConnect for WebRTC

  • Icons not rendering on buttons on Safari.
  • This seems to be a limitation on Safari. Our teams are exploring workarounds.
  • Incoming video tile on Safari briefly zoomed.
  • This seems to be a limitation with the rendering on Safari.
  • Our teams are exploring workarounds.

As more details become available, Vidyo will provide updates on the root cause, workarounds, and fix.

What actions can I take?

VidyoConnect for Desktop

  • Crashing on content share.
  • We suggest using VidyoConnect for WebRTC to share content.
  • Application non-interactable with when being shared through VidyoConnect.
  • We suggest using VidyoConnect for WebRTC to share content.
  • MacOS Menu Bar will display a Screen Capturing indicator saying VidyoConnect is capturing your screen whenever VidyoConnect is running.
  • There are no actions required for you to take for this issue.

VidyoConnect for WebRTC

  • Icons not rendering on buttons on Safari.
  • This has no impact on the feature functionality.
  • You can still use all the buttons even if the icons on the buttons are not rendered.
  • You can always hover on the button to see the tooltip with the functionality highlighted.
  • Alternatively, you can use Chrome on macOS.
  • Incoming video tile on Safari briefly zoomed.
  • No action is needed.
